Scott McLagan

Professor in Management Department and former executive at Monsanto and Emerson Electric.

“The DLX course fit perfectly with my organization. It offered a great deal of material that was relevant and the structure of the class was outstanding. Enjoyed the variety of facilitators. They were genuine and well equipped on the topics.”

“This program covered many helpful topics: VUCA, chemistry of the brain, spiritual freedom (the choice between stimulus and response), the importance of self, managing energy vs. time, response-ability, psychological safety, growth mindset, and strategic thinking to name a few.”

“I loved how DLX included scientific research, specifically the brain portion and the tie between our brain health and our performance as leaders.  It’s really made me much more conscientious about how I take care of myself physically, mentally and emotionally in order to be an effective leader.”

“The program was a great blend of business tactics—strategy, alignment, execution—with personal soft skills and leadership development. I loved the mix of professors, topics and activities outside the classroom. It was well-balanced and well thought out.”

“The coaching sessions were really helpful. I learned what coaching is and what questions to ask to help my employees move from asking for solutions to developing their own solutions.”

“I also had the opportunity to share a lot of what I learned with my leadership team and my direct reports and I hear them quoting things I’ve shared from time to time. I continue to retrain my surroundings and not center my day around email management but much more strategic initiatives first.”

“The amount of content and pace of the class was intense, but absorbable. The experiential and mindfulness components of the program really made the content “stick” for me. The instructors, Scott & Ali, were great. I felt ‘brain full/overwhelmed’ by the end of the week but left the program energized with a workable plan.”

“The program developed throughout the week which was very effective, starting with ourselves and our needs and moving up to executive leadership. I found it to be incredible for self-awareness and also helped me think about my professional direction.”

Detailed Schedule & Program Structure

As a part of the Denver Leadership Experience, participants will spend five consecutive days on campus at the University of Denver and nearby facilities for an intensive, deep-dive into leadership development. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the program all include an experiential element with a graduation ceremony taking place on Friday afternoon. Lunch is provided each day.

Approximately one week prior to the start of the program, each participant will have an individual 30-minute coaching call with one of the faculty members. This call will enable participants and faculty to meet prior to the program start, to discuss program outcomes, and to set initial goals.

To prepare for this class you will need to complete a few short action items that generally take 20-30 minutes. Please expect an email two to three weeks before the class begins with details on how to complete these action items.

Participants taking the workshop for credit will have an assignment to complete at the end of the course.
