What are some of your hobbies?
I’m an avid science fiction fan. I went through a few years of reading space opera, followed by a dive into Afrocentric and Afrofuturist books.
Where did/are you working while earning your PhD?
I am responsible for ASU’s Research Development office, which is charged with supporting large and strategic initiatives across the university.
What is your current position?
I am the Executive Director of Research Development.
Why have you decided to pursue a PhD?
I have been considering pursuit of a PhD for the past decade. Because of my previous degrees, I thought that a laboratory-based degree was my only option. I love molecular biology, but couldn’t image being enthused by it for the six or seven years it takes to earn a PhD in the field. In addition, that PhD wouldn’t advance my career in the direction I wanted to go. Two years ago, I discovered that Executive PhD programs would advance my career goals, while allowing me to complete research that I wasn’t formally trained in (i.e., not laboratory based).
Why did you choose to get your PhD from the Daniels College of Business?
After doing research and interviewing cohort members, I quickly realized that DCB offered a rigorous program at the pace I wanted to go, that wasn’t far from home.
What are your career goals or dream job after you complete your PhD?
I want to help academic researchers unlock their professional curiosity and advance their careers through creative partnerships and the pursuit of research funding. An Executive PhD will allow me to establish a level of scholarship in my interest area and complement my decade plus of lived experience.
