ABOUT THE EVENT
During this discussion, we will examine the importance of following-up and interpersonal, in-person communication as building blocks to better professional and personal growth. While the value of electronic communication is undeniable, interpersonal communication is a key way to enhance the benefit it provides to both parties. We will explore the richness of relationships through the lens of personal engagement, using 10 key factors. Of these factors, chief amongst them is “following-up” – whether you are building a business, deepening a personal relationship or excelling at an academic pursuit, your success will depend in large part on your ability to follow-up and take responsibility for the story your work tells. No one says yes until you ask. Following up is the first step to asking…
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Fredric E. Steck is an accomplished financial service executive with more than 40 years of achievement in sales, strategic business development, institutional client services and private equity. He now delivers lectures and talks on the power of personal communication in sales and relationship management. He has spoken to teams at KQED, Share Our Strength, The California Polytechnic State University, the University of California at Santa Barbara, and Washington State University, to name a few. Mr. Steck’s personal, professional, and philanthropic interests include technology, health and wellness, education, and environmental ventures.
Mr. Steck began his career at Goldman Sachs in San Francisco, where he served as western regional manager for the Fixed Income Division. In 1994, he was elected partner of the firm and relocated to the New York office. As partner, he was named National Sales Manager for the Fixed Income Currency and Commodities Division. In this role, he managed more than 350 salespeople across the firm’s many domestic and international offices. Over his 25 plus years with the firm, he has held significant leadership positions, whilst also serving on important committees in charge of risk, retirement, and compensation.
As an investor, Mr. Steck focuses on nurturing and developing promising technology and health-tech enterprises. He is on the board of Aravo Solutions, Inc., an enterprise software company offering third-party risk management solutions. As an initial investor, he has guided this evolving company to success; Aravo is now used by brands such as Ford, Microsoft, Google, Unilever, and Johnson & Johnson. Mr. Steck was an initial investor in Thorne Tech/DNP, a health and wellness company.
Mr. Steck served on the UC Santa Barbara Foundation Board in multiple capacities, including Chairman and Vice-Chair of Development. His work with UCSB also includes serving as an advisory board member for the Institute for Energy Efficiency and the UCSB Arts & Lectures. During his time living in the Santa Barbara area, Mr. Steck owned and operated a 5000-acre ranch, which housed a successful competitive horse operation. He restored the former cattle ranch by reestablishing the indigenous flora and fauna and creating a sustainable carbon-absorbing grassland property, managed to the highest environmental standards.
Finally, Mr. Steck’s greatest achievement in his eyes, are his five children. All have successfully completed advanced degrees from major universities and are now working to raise their own families and develop successful careers in the arts, business, psychology, and law. He believes there is no better indication of his advisory and management abilities than the success he has had in raising these five extraordinary individuals.
