The competition gives students the opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom to a real construction company by completing a management project/proposal. Proposals are submitted to a group of construction company executives who act as judges. During the convention, students defend their proposals to the judges in front of an audience.
Traditionally an undergraduate student only competition, NAHB included a graduate student competition for the first time in 2024. The Burns School graduate team took first place!

What Students Are Saying
The NAIOP real estate challenge provides an absolutely incredible opportunity to network with and learn from top industry professionals. This experience will serve all of us very well in our careers. I also feel a huge amount of respect for all the teams from DU and CU that competed in this and produced tremendous work. It’s an honor to be in the company of the best and brightest from these two schools.

MSREBE 2020
A project of this size, depth and time commitment requires a lot of trust and effort across the team. Our group was able to work collaboratively and put the project above any need to be right. I have no doubt that the camaraderie built within our team will last the duration of our careers.
