Daniels welcomes four new faculty members in areas of business analytics, management, finance and real estate
Four new faculty members have joined the Daniels College of Business heading into the fall 2022 academic year. Jung Hyun Kwon joined the Management Department. Christopher Peña joined the Department of Business Information and Analytics. Alex Petkevich joined the Reiman School of Finance. And, Vivek Sah joined the Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management.
“I am confident that you will be impressed with our new faculty, who are both impactful scholars and outstanding teachers,” said Lisa Victoravich, associate dean for faculty and research and professor of accountancy. “This group has already published their research in top journals and we know they’ll bring a wealth of meaningful scholarship to the Daniels community.”
Jung Hyun Kwon
Jung Hyun Kwon joined the Management Department July 1 as an assistant professor. Kwon is an entrepreneurship and strategic management scholar. His research interests include strategic management of intellectual property rights and technology-based entrepreneurship, with particular emphasis on value capture and creation strategies as well as the economics of entrepreneurship. He develops theoretical frameworks for organizational and entrepreneurial economics that address societal challenges.
Jung Hyun won first place in the Product Development and Management Association’s Doctoral Dissertation Competition.
Christopher Peña
Christopher Peña joined the Department of Business Information and Analytics Sept. 1 as an assistant professor of the practice. Christopher comes to Daniels with nearly 20 years of experience in higher education, focusing on institutional effectiveness, equity and inclusion and data strategy.
Before joining Daniels, Peña served as deputy strategy officer at Metropolitan State University of Denver, directing implementation of the university’s strategic plan and establishing their framework for data-informed decision making. Prior to that role, Peña served for over 12 years in the Office of Institutional Research & Analysis at DU, ending his time there as director of data management.
Peña professional interests include database design and critical quantitative analysis in applied settings. He is also a DU alum; receiving his MA in research methods and statistics from the Morgridge College of Education, and he is completing his PhD in the same program. He received his undergraduate degree in anthropology and French from Baylor University.
Alex Petkevich
Alex Petkevich joined Daniels as an associate professor in the Reiman School of Finance. Petkevich earned his PhD in Finance and a Master of Science in Mathematics from Texas A&M University, and he comes to DU after teaching for 11 years at the University of Toledo in Ohio, where he also served as a chair of the Neff Department of Finance.
Petkevich taught a variety of classes including advanced corporate finance, financial markets and institutions, and principles of financial management at the undergraduate and MBA levels. His research interests are in empirical asset pricing, fixed income, derivatives and institutional investors with a specific focus on market inefficiencies. His research has appeared in top scientific journals such as the Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Journal of Financial Markets.
Vivek Sah
Vivek Sah joined Daniels Sept. 1 as the director of the Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management. Sah came to DU from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) where he was the director of the LIED Institute of Real Estate Studies in the Lee Business School.
At UNLV, he oversaw the lnstitute’s efforts to build a real estate program for students and support educational opportunities for industry professionals in the region. Within the Lied Institute, Sah also conducted policy research, hosted public forums and developed strategic partnerships to better the community’s understanding of Nevada real estate.
Sah’s research focuses primarily on Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and housing. His work is published in top real estate journals in the U.S and U.K., and he’s the current editor of Journal of Sustainable Real Estate. Sah is a distinguished research fellow for NAIOP, a leading commercial real estate development association.
Sah got his PhD in Business Administration with a focus on Real Estate Finance and Investments from Georgia State University in 2009. He has an MBA in Finance and holds an engineering degree from India.
Faculty Promotions
In addition to the new faculty joining this fall, several current Daniels faculty members have been promoted. They are:
