About the Public Good Gala

Join us for this year’s Public Good Gala! A cocktail hour along with a silent auction will begin the evening followed by a delicious four-course meal with fine wine pairings prepared and served by our students under the guidance of our celebrity guest chef.

The Public Good Gala brings together students from the Fritz Knoebel School of Hospitality Management and recently resettled refugees participating in Ready for American Hospitality–a training program in which we partner with the African Community Center (ACC), a refugee resettlement agency in Denver.

In this special partnership, DU students mentor refugees, focusing on developing the necessary skills and knowledge needed to obtain jobs in hospitality. RAH will soon enter its 13th year and has been recognized by the U.S. Department of State and the U.N. High Commission on Refugees for its extraordinary success.

Guest Chef: Claudia Sandoval

“MasterChef” Champion, “MasterChef Latinos” host, “Taste of the Border” Host

Chef Claudia Sandoval is the winner of the sixth season of “MasterChef U.S.,” and has been featured as a judge on the last three seasons of “MasterChef Latino.”

Born and raised in sunny San Diego, California, to a family originally from Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Chef Claudia grew up with her mother and grandmother, who taught her how to cook from a young age. Her signature style is a modern take on Mexican coastal cuisine. After becoming a fan favorite and winning the coveted title of “Master Chef,” she has run a successful culinary consulting and catering company, published her bestselling cookbook “Claudia’s Cocina: A Taste of Mexico,” and opened up her own pop-up bakery, El Cochi Dorado.

With a passion for all things philanthropic, Chef Claudia continuously finds ways to give back, and serves as a board member of various nonprofit organizations. She has helped raise over $650k for her local communities.

Claudia’s latest series, “Taste of the Border,” premiered May 5th, 2022, on Discovery+. She has also been featured on many of Food Network’s programs, including “Chopped,” “Best Thing I Ever Ate,” “Worst Cooks in America” and “Easter Basket Challenge.” Claudia has also recently launched a line of co-branded line of traditional Mexican ready-made, gourmet meals with Home Bistro. She currently lives with her 16-year-old daughter in the city of San Diego, where they enjoy the outdoors and local dining scene.
