Daniels College of Business grads are among the most prepared to make a difference in the world, according to new rankings from Fortune Recommends. Daniels MBAs rank No. 28 on a new list of programs that prioritize sustainability and social good. The University of Denver is the only Colorado school to receive a ranking.
“Developing ethical business leaders has been a cornerstone of the Daniels mission since the business school was established, nearly 120 years ago,” said Naomi Boyd, dean of the Daniels College of Business. “Time and again, our programs have been recognized for integrating social, environmental and ethical issues into our coursework.”
Fortune celebrated Daniels MBA programs for their courses, “designed to educate students at the intersection of business and environmental, social, and governance (ESG).” The Princeton Review has also routinely put Daniels programs on its list of Best Green MBAs.
A hallmark of the full-time Denver MBA is its challenge-based curriculum, in which students work as consultants to real companies, taking on the issues they are currently facing. That includes a Social Good Challenge, where students apply their learning to a troublesome problem for a nonprofit or other company. Past cohorts have partnered with Mile High United Way, Art from Ashes, Denver Food Rescue, Denver Sister Cities, EarthLinks, Goodwill Denver, Growing Colorado Kids and The Gathering Place.
Denver MBA students can also pursue a concentration in sustainability, which focuses on how organizations can move beyond “check the box” sustainability to real impact and measurable value. A graduate certificate in global business and corporate social responsibility is also offered in partnership with DU’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies.
“We work with all of our students individually to build a degree that serves their interests and career aspirations,” said Suzy Lindley, senior program director of MBA programs. “It’s no surprise that so many of them elect to incorporate ESG. They are passionate about elevating their communities, and they know that making a difference is becoming table stakes at companies of all sizes, all over the world.”
Executive MBA tackles social impact projects
Ethical business is also a pillar of the Daniels Executive MBA program, which is tailored to the strengths and needs of professionals with 10-20+ years of experience. In addition to focusing on the complex business issues facing senior leaders today, the EMBA program centers on ethical decision making and a professional student’s values as a leader.
All students take part in the Social Impact Project, which pairs students with nonprofits to tackle strategic and critical business issues. After they graduate, many students remain connected to the organizations they worked with.
