City Treks Testimonials

Wesley Miller, MBA Candidate 2015

The NY City Trek was my first time visiting NY and I had an absolute blast!! We visited companies from different industries and they treated us as equals rather than talking down to us or treating us like students. The CityTrek allowed me to learn about companies but also to learn about the city itself. There was free time at night to walk around, go see certain monuments, and to try the delicious food. We also used the subway system to get around which was an experience within itself! I would recommend the CityTrek to all students at DU.

Natalie Margason, Full-time MBA

danielscareers-nataliemargasonThis past December I participated in the Daniels City Treks Trip to Chicago. City Treks gives undergraduate and graduate students at Daniels the opportunity to travel to cities across the U.S. to meet high-quality employers and professionals. My classmates and I spent two days in Chicago where we visited companies such as Grant Thornton, Park Hyatt, LinkedIn, Groupon, Walgreens, Discover and Google. Each company visit included a personal tour and a panel of employees who described their experience at their company and answered all of our questions. As a Full-time MBA student graduating in June and seeking opportunities in Chicago, this was a premier networking opportunity that gave me exposure to different companies that have offices in Chicago. Many employees that I met at each company were willing to stay in contact with me and answer further questions. My favorite part of the trip was seeing the inside of each office and getting a feel for the different company cultures. Company culture plays a huge role in job fit and satisfaction and it was fun to see the culture differences between a company like Groupon and a company like Discover.

My key takeaway from this trip is that people are always willing to talk to you as a student seeking information about their job or company. This is an open door so don’t be afraid to ask questions and follow up with individual informational interviews after the trip!
