Chef David Patterson

Imagine taking your final exam in front of a packed and hungry crowd at a large community event. This is essentially what the 20 DU hospitality students and their 10 refugee trainees will do as they host the Public Good Gala.

The 4th Annual Public Good Gala is a collaboration of the Fritz Knoebel School of Hospitality Management and the Ethiopian Community Development Council/African Community Center (ACC), a refugee resettlement agency in Denver. The Gala is a culmination of the four-week training program called the Ready for American Hospitality or RAH for short.

Offered since 2012, this innovative program helps refugees develop the skills and knowledge needed to obtain jobs in the food service industry. The evening will include hors d’oeuvres followed by a four-course dinner with each course paired with wines from Ceja Vineyards. The evening’s menu will be under the direction of featured guest chef David Patterson of The Broadmoor.

Chef Patterson has been a part of The Broadmoor since 2012. He has been instrumental in the concept and menu development of the culinary program, including the food and beverage operations at Emerald Valley Ranch, Cloud Camp, The Broadmoor Fish Camp and 1858 at Seven Falls.

The menu will be prepared and served by Knoebel and RAH students under the guidance of Chef Patterson. Visit the Daniels website to register.
