press-lliLast month, the Daniels College of Business entered into a partnership with the Latino Leadership Institute, which brings together Latino professionals in Colorado, with at least seven years of professional experience, seeking to advance their careers to the next level. The program develops individuals’ leadership skills, promotes the advancement of Latino communities and builds a statewide network for Latino professionals.

The flagship program of the Institute is the Latino Leadership Institute Fellowship, which selects outstanding individuals for a one-year intensive program building leadership acumen through a curriculum of personal and professional development, government and business development workshops, social impact projects and more.

“This Latino Leadership Institute is unlike any other program out there for Latino professionals, and it aims to develop the whole person and educate fellows in the areas of business, government, philanthropy and personal and professional growth,” says Cindy Peña, executive director of the Institute. “We’re so excited to leverage the strength and reach of Daniels to offer an exciting program for Latinos that teaches them what it means to be a culturally relevant leader.”

The Institute’s board of directors is composed of several prominent business, educational and civic Latino leaders in Colorado, including Marco Antonio Abarca, Patricia Baca, Patricia Barela Rivera, Steve Farber, Timothy Marquez and Federico Pena. University of Denver provost and executive vice chancellor, Gregg Kvistad, serves as ex-officio board member.

The Latino Leadership Institute is housed within the Office of Executive Education. “We’re so excited about the creation of this Institute and fellowship program and especially about offering this unique opportunity to exceptional up-and-coming Latino business leaders in Colorado,” says Dr. Barbara Kresiman, associate dean of executive education and professional MBA programs. “Daniels strives to produce well-rounded, ethical leaders who are capable of succeeding in the face of adversity and unforeseen challenges. We know that this program will benefit Colorado’s Latino leaders with rich education in a variety of areas, networking opportunities, mentorship and more.”

The fellowship application period closes November 21, and approximately 25 fellows will be selected for the inaugural class. To learn more about the Latino Leadership Institute and apply to become a fellow, visit latinoslead.org.
