Finance

Chris Hughen, CFA, is an associate professor of finance at the University of Denver and directs the Marsico Investment Center in the Reiman School of Finance. Chris holds a PhD in finance from the University of Missouri and regularly teaches in equity analysis and portfolio management.

Research

Professor Hughen has published peer-reviewed research articles in leading finance journals such as The Journal of Portfolio Management, The Journal of Financial Research and Financial Management. He has served as a reviewer for numerous academic journals, including the Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Business Ethics and International Review of Financial Analysis.

 

Awards

His research has won awards from the CFP Board of Examiners, Academy of Financial Services, and the Daniels College of Business. In 2021, he received the Innovative Teaching Award from the Daniels College of Business for his work developing experiential learning opportunities for students.

 

Teaching

Professor Hughen created the curriculum for our student-managed investment fund classes, which are viewed as capstone courses for students pursuing careers in investments. He is currently the professor for the graduate student class (Marsico Fund class). This class manages a $3 million equity fund that is part of DU’s endowment.

He teaches graduate-level courses in equity analysis, which emphasize fundamental equity analysis, valuation techniques and portfolio management strategies In addition, he is the course developer and lead instructor for the equity analysis course in DU’s online MBA program.

He is a regular contributor to the public discourse, with appearances on 9 News, FOX 31 and 7 News. His radio credits include Marketplace, Colorado Public Radio and KOA and his commentary has been featured in leading publications like the Denver Post, Denver Business Journal and U.S. News & World Report. He is available to provide expert commentary on financial markets, economic trends and investment strategies.
