DU undergraduate student shares her bubble tea recommendations
Sweet, chewy, satisfying, funky flavors but what could it be? I introduce to you bubble tea! You have to stop by a bubble tea location next time you’re out! I can officially say I found the perfect drink for when you crave just a little snack or dessert that isn’t overwhelming. The best part is that there are 5 amazing bubble tea locations around us as DU students! The next time you go out, have these places on your dessert bucket list as each place is unique to its’ taste and experience. It is perfect for any occasion whether it’s a day in or night out.
Tbaar
Miles from DU: 1.2
Hours: 11 a.m.–10 p.m.
Menu
Are milk-based drinks not your cup of tea? Tbaar is a bubble tea place that isn’t just reserved for milk teas. It has healthy alternatives like juices for people who aren’t looking for a calorie loaded drink, and what makes it even better? They’re made fresh! They range from vegetable and fruit juices, smoothies, hot drinks, bubble teas and even cakes! The best of all is that it is so close to DU with only a five-minute drive.
Ding Tea
Miles from DU: 1.5
Hours: Noon-8 p.m.
Menu
Located off Colorado Boulevard, you can find this Taiwanese originated shop with its own unique boba, “golden boba”. The toppings are so fresh and the boba itself is chewy and sweet. Other than that, the place has a simple menu only including liquid based drinks (so no smoothies). I personally enjoy the yogurt drinks the most as it gives the nostalgic feeling of the yakult drinks we used to have as kids!
Zero Degrees
Miles from DU: 2.1
Hours: 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
Menu
Sometimes you don’t want just a drink, you want a meal, too! Zero Degrees offer that. Popular for its’ menu of popcorn chicken, wings and fries, you can now combine that with a nice bubble tea, slush or milkshakes! Don’t know what to choose? They offer split cups so you can try two flavors without breaking the bank.
Tea Street
Miles from DU: 2.4
Hours: Noon- 8 p.m.
Menu
Tea Street has been a recent favorite of mine ever since I attended DU. The accessible location is amazing! There are so many restaurants from WingStop to Domino’s so it’s easy to plan a night out as you can go eat from the various restaurants and walk to Tea Street. It also features a simplistic welcoming interior that is perfect for students to unwind from school.
Meetfresh
Miles from DU: 2.1
Hours: 1 p.m.-8 p.m.
Menu
While I’m sad to end this list, at least I can say I included this hidden gem! This is for adventurous DU students and it originates from Taiwan as well. Unlike Dingtea where it offers exclusively liquid based drinks, Meetfresh offers desserts ranging from huge servings of shaved ice, hot drinks, bubble teas, and authentic Taiwanese desserts that aren’t too sweet. The dessert has a variety of textures from grass jelly, taro balls, soybean tofu, and many more for you to choose from. It is a new experience that as a DU student living so close, you should come try it out.
There are many boba shops surrounding the amazing campus of DU, but these are my top 5 to try out for its’ distance, environment and overall drinks! Try something different other than ice cream, and you might just fall in love with it!
