If you’ve walked across DU’s campus, you’ve most likely seen the large lawn chairs perfectly and skillfully positioned in the various locations across campus. Whether you take some time to sit and chat with a friend or just kick back alone to survey your surroundings, these seating accommodations are one of the hallmarks of DU. In this list, these iconic chairs are ranked from least appealing to stunning in a variety of categories.
Dimond Family Residential Village

Wow Factor: 0/5
Although conveniently located between the new Dimond family residential village’s two wings, these chairs don’t have much more to offer. This location is great for eating lunch as it is just a few steps away from the newly opened dining hall. The dorms obscure a potential view of the mountains. The surrounding area does not have much exciting to offer.

The chairs stationed on the east side of the newly opened community commons are perfectly placed for a nice outdoor meal or just hanging out between classes. Positioned on a concrete deck facing the Campus Green, the chairs are also placed near outdoor tables. The convenience of these chairs is alluring but points are deducted because these chairs are blue. The color stands out a bit too much relative to the rest of DU’s color scheme.
Campus Green

The chairs on the Driscoll Lawn are only a few paces away from those at the student center. Stationed directly between the student center and the Sturm College of Law, these chairs are some of the first you’ll see if you’re walking southbound from the top of campus. I find these chairs best for basking in the sun between classes at Sturm Hall and munching on an everything bagel with garden veggie shmear from the Einstein’s cart.

Library and Driscoll Center

Just a bit south of the Campus Green chairs, the red chairs placed between the Anderson Academic Commons and the Driscoll Center are perfect for lounging outside between classes while sipping on your favorite coffee from Beans. What makes these chairs stand out is their location—on the way to many class buildings if you’re walking from the north side of campus and on the way to a number of food options if you’re making the hike from the south side of campus.
Nagel Hall

Convenience: 2/5
Wow Factor: 4/5
Tucked away behind Nagel and the Fritz Knoebel School of Hospitality Management, these chairs are secluded enough to sit and have some time to yourself. I recommend these chairs if you’re trying to be productive but want to sit outside to get some fresh air.
Engineering and Computer Science

Convenience: 1/5
Wow Factor: 5/5
For many, the engineering and computer science building chairs are a struggle to get to (it’s almost a 25-minute walk from Towers and Halls), but once there, it’s all worth it. Especially in the spring and summer months, the chairs are surrounded by gorgeous greenery and water features.
My personal favorite chairs on campus are the Library and Driscoll Center chairs. In the end, they’re just chairs! Whichever option you favor is great, and there are several more chairs around DU than the ones listed here. If you’re taking a break between classes to chat with a friend or wanting to soak up some rays while being productive, the red and white lawn chairs around campus are phenomenal spots to be. Go explore your choices and sit on it!
