On Friday, December 8, 2017, School of Accountancy alumni gathered together to have a fun-filled night and cheer on the University of Denver Pioneers against the Colorado College Tigers. Sitting together in section 15 and 17, the SoA alumni cheered on the Pioneers through double overtime. Though the game ended in a tie, this night was filled with laughter and familiar faces coming together.
This tradition, held twice a year, of hosting Alumni Nights goes back for the last 30 years. Each Alumni Night is a way to celebrate and reconnect with the vast alumni community of the SoA and current faculty and staff. The Alumni Nights have continued to have a strong response rate and are expanding and evolving as more alumni bring their families. The latest Alumni Night had an 100% attendance rate and one of the largest turnouts for this event.
The addition of families has allowed the already large SoA alumni community the ability to expand and bond with different generations. Marshall Ward (MAcc ’99) and his wife Shannon bring their children to each event and have become memorable for listing creative names, such as “Nutella”, to be printed on their nametags, allowing them to stand out in SoA community.
Alumni Relations and Development Coordinator Kristen Dimig has been responsible for organizing these events for the past two years and has been able to meet and identify some of our more active and supportive alumni. Among them are the Tripps (John, MA ’75, MT ‘76 and Jim, BS ’09, MAcc ’09, MT ’10) who have been very active and attend every Alumni Night. John has continued to support this event through his many years of serving on the SoA faculty and Jim serves on the Alumni Engagement Council (AEC) where he enthusiastically gives back to the SoA community. Also part of our active alumni are John Rodman (BSBA ’69) and his daughter Katie (BSAcc ’10), who are huge supporters of this event. Additionally, Robin McCaffery (BSAcc ’80) and Allyson Lindsay (BSAcc, MAcc, ’14) attend almost every Alumni Night, and both Robin and Allyson serve on the AEC as well.
The SoA is fortunate to be able to foster their relationship with the alumni community and look forward to the next Alumni Night on February 17th.
