Jack Kroninger

DU Transfer Student, Daniels Management Major and Incoming Deloitte GPS Business Analyst

This summer, Jack Kroninger took on a challenging internship at Deloitte Consulting, where he worked on a vital project for the U.S. Air Force. Acting as the bridge between client needs and the technical team, he helped shape the future of personnel management software. Now set to return to Deloitte full-time in 2025, Jack reflects on the hands-on experience that sharpened his skills and broadened his perspective.

Jack Kroninger’s summer internship at Deloitte Consulting offered more than just a glimpse into the world of business consulting—it gave him a chance to contribute to a real, large-scale project while navigating the complexities of working with a major client like the U.S. Air Force. As a GPS (Government and Public Services) Business Summer Scholar, Jack gained hands-on experience that not only challenged his technical and analytical skills but also demonstrated the value of collaboration and clear communication in the professional world.

A Deep Dive Into Consulting Work

During his internship, Jack was part of a team focused on implementing new personnel management software for a specific department within the Air Force. The project, now in its final stages but still expected to span another few years, aims to modernize the way personnel data is managed, allowing for more efficient and responsive processes. Jack’s role in this effort was that of a “developer liaison,” an essential link between project managers and the development team. His job involved taking client feature requests and transforming them into technical specification documents that the developers could use to build and refine the software. “I worked with both the PMO and developers to ensure everyone was on the same page,” Jack explained. “It was my responsibility to make sure the technical details were clear, so the developers knew exactly what needed to be done.” This role required Jack to navigate complex client requirements and translate them into something actionable, a task that called on both his organizational skills and his ability to communicate technical concepts effectively.

Applying Knowledge in the Real World

Looking back on the summer, Jack recognized how much his academic background helped him adapt to the demands of the job. From understanding how to manage a project’s timeline and milestones to effectively presenting updates during meetings, Jack felt well-prepared for the challenges he faced. His experience in collaborative team environments made daily stand-ups and cross-functional workstreams a familiar part of his routine, helping him connect his individual work to the broader goals of the project. Jack also found that technical skills like Excel and PowerPoint, often underestimated in academic settings, played an unexpectedly large role in his day-to-day work. Over the course of his eightweek internship, he created numerous PowerPoint presentations—earning recognition from Deloitte’s onboarding team for his quick mastery of the firm’s templates. It was these smaller but essential skills that helped him contribute to the team in tangible ways, whether through preparing reports, visualizing data, or conveying progress to senior leaders.

Looking Ahead: A Return to Deloitte

With his internship successfully completed, Jack is set to return to Deloitte full-time as a GPS Business Analyst in June 2025, based out of the Denver office. His focus will be in the Enterprise Technology & Performance sector, a specialization that will allow him to continue working on projects that align technology solutions with client needs. Reflecting on his time at Deloitte, Jack expressed his excitement about building a career with the firm and continuing to work on projects that have real impact. “Looking back, the internship gave me a clear sense of what I want to do,” Jack shared. “It was an incredible learning experience, and I’m excited to see what’s next.”
