Think about the pride that comes with nailing a presentation. The warm handshake of a connection that will last a lifetime. The thrill of hearing you got the job. The support of a professor who knows your name and your potential. The selflessness of an alum who lends their time, attention and expertise. The trust of a business leader who asks for your help. The research that makes a real difference. The authenticity of someone that always shows up. The satisfaction that comes with doing the right thing.
That’s something we call The Daniels Effect: the tangible success and the intangible values that stem from a school that’s in the business of better business.
Here are five reasons students should look forward to experiencing #TheDanielsEffect.
1. You get lifetime access to the career services resources
Good news: The doors at Daniels Career Services are always open, whether it’s to rework a resume, develop a networking strategy or craft a mock interview. Better news: As a result, Daniels grads boast some of the highest post-graduate employment rates at the University of Denver, with more than 91% of undergraduates and 94% of master’s and PhD alumni employed within six months of graduation.
The best news: You don’t lose access once you graduate.
Grace Brockwell graduated in 2018 with a double major in marketing and business information and analytics, but asked Daniels Career Services to help her steer her career toward a more technical role. When she found the right position, her career coach helped her negotiate the terms and salary.
2. “Classroom” is just a figure of speech
You can only learn so much in a lecture hall. Daniels classes are notorious for teaching through doing. Case competitions offer opportunities to develop solutions to challenges facing real companies. The Hub is home to a wide range of interactive, innovative spaces—from a sewing studio to a maker space to a place for podcasting and presentation practice.
The University of Denver’s quarter system also leaves plenty of space for adventure, exploration, cultural competency and hands-on learning. “Interterm courses” offer unforgettable opportunities to gain a new perspective, watch the business world up close and put a few new stamps in your passport.
3. Our alumni will teach you their secret handshake
Daniels graduates remember where they came from. When it comes time to hire interns or new employees, many alumni first look to their alma mater. Ryan McLean’s (BSBA 2016) Mountain Crust pizza business caters hundreds of weddings each year, with support from a solid crimson and gold network.
4. We want to get to know you as a person
Faculty know your name and your story at Daniels, and staff support you every step of the way. Smaller class sizes help you get to know your classmates and student organizations, like the Women in Business (WiB) club, are eager to bring like-minded individuals together in an open, cooperative, collaborative space.
WiB’s busy calendar of events are full of opportunities to network, gain a mentor and learn valuable lessons that last a lifetime.
5. You have everything you need to reach your goals
GoodLove Foods was already off the ground when Chennelle Diong first set foot on campus. Daniels sent it into the stratosphere.
Today, GoodLove has a foothold on the frozen, ready-to-bake, gluten-free biscuit market, boosted by an angel investment from Shark Tank’s Lori Greiner. Diong’s idea took off during a summer at BASE Camp, Entrepreneurship@DU’s five-week startup accelerator. The support she received from E@DU—professional mentoring, office space, a collaborative cohort, a stipend and plenty of pitch practice—made all the difference.
