What are your responsibilities and contributions as DU faculty senator?
At the beginning of the Fall term in 2024, I was appointed to the role of Vice Chairperson of The University Budget Advisory Committee (UBAC). This role is part of my responsibilities as the Financial Planning Committee Chairperson of the Faculty Senate. I was elected to this role in September 2024. The UBAC’s mission is to increase transparency regarding the University’s financial planning and budgeting process. In addition, the UBAC will recommend strategies to improve university finances and investments for the future.
As part of my responsibilities, I have recommended financial strategies to evaluate large infrastructure projects. This will help ensure that new projects provide the best possible value for our investment dollars in the future. Additionally, I have assisted in reviewing the University budgeting and planning efforts for the 2025/26 academic year and beyond.
What motivates you in serving in this role and how do you find it fulfilling and important for your professional development?
I am motivated to help the University of Denver maintain and grow its reputation as one of the top schools in the Rocky Mountain area and nation. As a faculty member In the Reiman School of Finance, I teach in several programs including undergraduate, EMBA, PMBA and MSAQF. At the undergraduate level, I teach the Reiman Fund class, where the students manage part of the DU endowment. I also have led or participated in experiential learning travel classes to Belize and New York (An Organized Walk on Wall Street). Building on my professional experiences, I developed a Corporate Treasury Management class that both undergraduate and graduate students take. I am grateful for the opportunity to use my skills as a former Fortune 300 finance executive to help the University. I have two children who have attended DU. My son Eric graduated in 2024 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and my daughter Sky is a sophomore Computer Sciences major.
