What advice do you have for prospective students?

Never turn down an invitation to go to the Stadium Inn after a 10 p.m. class. You will always bond with an alumni exchanging stories of the Stadium.

Were you involved in any clubs or student groups during your time at Daniels?

I was treasurer of the University of Denver Finance Club, and a connection I made through the club led me to my current job.

What are some of your favorite things to do in or around Denver?

My favorite thing about Denver is that the city is so close to the mountains. For someone like me who likes to go out with friends downtown Friday night and ski Saturday mornings, you won’t find a better place for it. I also love the coffee and brewery scene around Denver along with escaping out to Arapahoe Basin to ski some from fresh pow.

What were you looking for in a business school?

I was coming from the accounting field on the east coast, but I knew I wanted to live in Denver. A Master’s in Applied Quantitative Finance paired with an accounting degree offered a numbers-based degree that would round out my skill set. Having a tight alumni network also offered opportunity in the saturated Denver job market.

What surprised you most about business school?

The deliverables. After coming from a test-heavy undergrad experience, it was nice to work collaboratively on projects and create lasting bonds with people in my cohort.

Is there a particular experience at Daniels that really stands out?

The CFA Research Challenge with Professor JP Tremblay was one of the most memorable experiences. I reinforced what I was learning in class by writing a 30-page equity analysis and presenting with a team in front of local CFA’s. We had the pleasure of winning regionals and competing in Boston at the national level.

Tell us about the Daniels classroom experience.

Classes in Daniels are filled with familiar faces, ski buddies and worldly visitors – all very intelligent and passionate about what’s being taught.

How has Daniels prepared you to be market-ready?

Jeff Woods in Career Services was invaluable in helping me figure out what I wanted to do with my career. He also helped me navigate a job offer and salary negotiations. I would also add that leveraging the 70% coverage of the CFA exam is also important to being better than 95% of the rest of the market.
