Many of us have found ourselves in circumstances that drive an urge for change. Whether it be personal or professional, we have all dreamt of it. I was, and still am, one of those people. The desire for change has been a burdensome yoke to carry for quite some time. It was not until recently that I decided to make a real effort to stop talking about it, stop dreaming about it, and to drop that yoke and begin making changes in my life.

The first step is always the toughest. As the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” The first step for me was a humble acknowledgement of the professional education and development pieces that I lacked. In a serendipitous series of events, I learned of the Executive MBA program at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business.

After my first interactions with the Executive MBA administration, I knew I had found the trailhead to my path for change. The applications, interviews and tours further solidified that feeling, and excitedly, I found myself newly-enrolled as an Executive MBA candidate at a highly respected and renowned private university. As I near the end of my first quarter, I am still giddy with excitement about my new role as a student, the overwhelming number of new connections I’ve made, and the real opportunity for change that I’ve created by taking that first step.

As my experience with the Executive MBA program grows, I find myself already more confident in my daily business interactions. I am engaging with leaders at non-profits, startups and multibillion dollar entities that include organizations such as like Microsoft, Halliburton, Emerson, and local, state and federal government agencies. Whether you’re seeking to build a business and leadership foundation for entrepreneurial goals, further grow your already established success, or like me, looking to develop a foundation on which to pursue new opportunities, the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver is my highest recommended starting point.
