Biography at a Glance

Marcus Birney is a versatile business executive and entrepreneurial agent within organizations. A professor and big picture strategist balanced with project detail, he has experience in general management, strategy, utility positions and directing within corporate and entrepreneurial business structures.

In the past, Birney consulted large clients on enterprise mobile and digital strategy initiatives—executed through nationally distributed project teams. He directed Operations and Strategy for a Colorado startup that powered more than one million consumer brand engagements for clients such as ESPN, USA Network, Dateline NBC, America’s Next Top Model and The CW. He also managed a healthcare clinic with a $4 million P&L and staff of 15 direct reports and generated more than $65 million in revenue within the finance and higher education administration fields.

Birney’s research interest involves how mobile-based investing will change local community relationships with global equity markets and further define the concept of social capital.
