Daniel J. Sweeney is Executive Director of the Institute for Enterprise Ethics (IEE) at the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. Sweeney is also a member of the adjunct faculty of the Daniels College of Business where he has taught courses in leadership and competitive strategies in the college’s MBA program since 2002. He previously served as the president, director and a founding member of the Center for Corporate Excellence, an independent research center formed to advance ethical behavior in the business community. Sweeney has served as an independent director for West Marine Inc., a NASDAQ listed corporation where he served on the Audit Committee as chair of the Governance and Compensation Committee and for Shoe Sensation, a privately owned retail shoe business. Sweeney has served as a member of the Board of Advisors of the Retail Management Institute at the University of Santa Clara, the National Advisory Board of the Marketing Institute at Brigham Young University, and the Board of Advisors of the Institute for Retail Management at the University of Florida and on the Dean’s Advisory Board at the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University. From 1995 until 2000, Sweeney headed the global management consulting practice serving the Distribution Industries for IBM Global Services. Prior to joining IBM, Sweeney was chairman of Management Horizons, Inc the premier research and consulting firm serving the retailing industry. Earlier in his career, he held several executive positions with the Dayton Hudson Corporation, now known as Target Corporation. Previously, he was assistant professor in the business school of the University of Tennessee. Sweeney has experience working with a variety of media and can comments in the areas of corporate governance, corporate strategy, corporate social responsibility, corporate leadership, and related topics.
