Gordon Von Stroh

On Wednesday, May 3 at 6 p.m., members of the Von Stroh family, former students, friends, faculty and staff will gather to honor one of the university’s most beloved faculty: Professor Emeritus Gordon E. Von Stroh. Classroom 217 in Margery Reed Hall will be dedicated to the late Dr. Von Stroh, who served the University for 45 years. This was made possible through a generous donation from Dr. Patrice Von Stroh, Gordon’s spouse and an alumna of the University of Denver.

“We are proud to dedicate this classroom in memory of Gordon Von Stroh, whose impact at Daniels and DU continues to be felt many years later,” said Brent Chrite, Dean of the Daniels College of Business.

Gordon’s legacy at Daniels and DU is extensive.

In 1967, after completing his PhD at age 24, Von Stroh became an Assistant Professor of Administrative Science at the University of Denver. He received tenure in 1972, and was promoted to full professor in 1979, serving in the Daniels Department of Management. He was well-known for organizing and conducting the Colorado and Denver Metropolitan Area Quarterly Apartment Vacancy and Rent Survey.

“How very appropriate that a classroom be used to commemorate our colleague, Gordon Von Stroh,” said Cindi Fukami, professor of management. “He was devoted to his students, and they to him. He was passionate about adding value to their lives and cared deeply about their learning. He made a difference in so many lives, and most of the time, it started in a classroom.”

In addition to teaching at Daniels, he was active across DU. Von Stroh served two terms as president of the Faculty Senate from 1990–94. He served on the College Undergraduate Core Curriculum Committee, the University Honors Committee, the University Study Abroad Committee, the University Human Services Committee and many others.

He received several University awards including “Outstanding Teaching and Dedication to Students” (1991 and 2001), “Leadership on Behalf of the Faculty” (1993), Founder’s Day “Distinguished Service to the University” award (2007), and the faculty award for “Outstanding Service for the Public Good” (2009).

Von Stroh’s family is well-known at DU. His wife, Patrice (MA ’91, PhD ’98), and children Christina Von Stroh (BS ’01, MA ’03, MBA ’03), Jonathan Von Stroh (MS ’05, MBA ’05, PhD ’10) and Justin Von Stroh (JD ’08, MS ’09) are all proud DU alumni.

The DU community is invited to honor Dr. Von Stroh by attending the gathering May 3 at 6 p.m. in Margery Reed Hall. Please RSVP.
