Pairing Dinner May 17; Grand Tasting May 19
It’s the signature event of the Fritz Knoebel School of Hospitality Management, where the public samples amazing food and wine and students test the skills they’ve learned over the course of their program at Fritz Knoebel. Join the University of Denver’s Fritz Knoebel School for the seventh annual DU Vin Festival.
The DU Vin dinner is Thursday, May 17, 5:45-10 p.m., and will feature Guest Chef Rocco Whalen. Whalen is one of the top chefs in the Midwest, having received accolades from Gourmet, Esquire, Restaurant Hospitality and a James Beard Award nomination. He’s known for his Fahrenheit restaurants in Cleveland, Ohio, and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Guests begin their evening at the DU Vin dinner greeted with sparkling wine and hors d’oeuvres. Once guests are seated they are served a custom four course menu; each carefully thought out course is paired with an exceptional wine. ARAMARK, which features Chef Whalen at Quicken Loans Arena, the home of the Cleveland Cavaliers, is the presenting sponsor of this year’s pairing dinner.
The Grand Tasting is Saturday, May 19, 1- 4 p.m. Guests will sample more than 100 wines and food from several Denver restaurants including Brio, Pizzeria Locale and The Lobby. The Grand Tasting admission price also includes three educational seminars and a pairing challenge where top area chefs compete to create the perfect wine and food pairing. Grand Tasting guests vote on their favorite pairing combination and the winning restaurant team receives $500 to donate to the charity of its choice. DU Vin is the signature event in Denver for Republic National Distributing of Colorado, the DU Vin Festival’s beverage sponsor.
“The DU Vin Festival is one of Fritz Knoebel’s really special student-driven events,” says David Corsun, director of Fritz Knoebel. “DU Vin is planned and executed by the juniors and seniors in a couple of our courses. They do an outstanding job. We in Fritz Knoebel and the broader community have come to look forward each year to our two guest chef series events, the DU Vin dinner and the Public Good Gala, which took place in February. They are incredible examples of the kind of challenge-driven learning opportunities we provide for our students.”
