Marijuana is expected to be an $8 billion industry by 2018, which may encourage tobacco companies to enter the market.

But marijuana industry spokesman Mike Elliott doubts tobacco firms will want — or even be able to meet — Colorado’s extensive marijuana regulations, which include a two-year state residency requirement.

Twenty U.S. states have marijuana laws on their books currently, but the product remains illegal at the federal level.
