Path to the Next Step

I started my internship search almost three years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I applied to over 35 positions and obtained almost 20 interviews; I interviewed with 9 organizations and obtained offers from 5 of them. After it all, I landed an internship paying $14/hour with a small investment firm.

Sounds pretty successful right? What if I told you I interviewed with a company where I could have gained better experience and $4 more an hour, but I didn’t get the job? What if I also told you that I didn’t end up getting the experience I thought I would with the firm I interned for?

Everyone knows you need to have a solid resume and cover letter, but what don’t you know?

I didn’t know how to differentiate myself. I didn’t do a good job proving my value to potential employers. I also didn’t understand all of the simple business etiquette skills surrounding the interview and internship process.

The Path to an Internship event on February 13 will help you gain all the knowledge you need to be successful in obtaining the best internship possible and to get the most out of the experience. Don’t follow in my footsteps and make small, avoidable mistakes that will strip great opportunities from your future. Take a few hours on a weekend, and learn what you don’t know so you can make the most out of your internship experience.
