The tax returns of the two major-party candidates for governor reveal a business-minded Republican who’s been losing six-figure amounts in business the last few years, and a Democratic incumbent who gives heavily to charity but won’t disclose which ones.

Republican Bob Beauprez started Eagle’s Wing Ranch in Jackson County in 2008, and the bison business has lost money in each year since.

The losses for the ranch were $719,554 in 2008, $516,375 in 2009, $448,119 in 2010, $674,212 in 2011 and $441,502 in 2012, according to an analysis by Spencer J. Solove, a master’s degree candidate in the School of Accountancy in the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver.
