Whether students are starting their undergraduate business education or an MBA program, the Daniels College of Business takes a unique approach to welcoming students to the Daniels experience.
Ethics Boot Camp
All Daniels undergraduate students learn business ethics lessons by living them. Real-world examples of ethical decision making and social responsibility are woven throughout the curriculum. However, all students also participate in the Ethics Boot Camp designed by the Daniels Department of Business Ethics and Legal Studies, an experience that sets students on a path of enduring commitment to business ethics, global sustainability and corporate responsibility throughout their lives and careers. This two-day experience teaches students to develop an ethical framework through interactions with professors, peers, business leaders and others. Ethics Boot Camp even incorporates a volunteer component with Goodwill Industries in which students work with the organization in their first quarter as Daniels students.
Leading at the Edge
Business professionals come to Daniels for their graduate education to build their leadership skills and understanding—and what better way to begin that journey than to kick off the master’s program with an intensive, experiential weekend among peers.
Leading at the Edge is a signature Daniels experience for Full-time MBA, Professional MBA, One-year MBA, International MBA and MS students—and a component of the Essence of Enterprise class. Each fall, new graduate students head to the Nature Place, an outdoor education center in Florissant, Colorado, dedicated to team and leadership development. The multi-day Leading at the Edge weekend develops students’ problem solving, teambuilding and critical thinking skills and encourages them to explore topics such as sustainability, self-awareness and leadership. The transformative experience gives students the skills to navigate today’s dynamic, challenging business environment and encourages them to reach outside of their daily comfort zone.
Team Sail Challenge
All new Executive MBA (EMBA) students embark on their program by joining their EMBA cohorts aboard a 28-foot sailboat for a teambuilding experience unlike any other.
On land classroom sessions, a sailing experience through the San Diego Bay and evening activities give students insight into their leadership style and team effectiveness—and one another. With four students to a boat, a world-class skipper and a faculty facilitator, the experience is powerful and lasting. The Team Sail Challenge sets the stage for a truly collaborative learning cohort environment back at Daniels.
At Daniels, learning by doing is an integral part of every academic program—and these experiences are just a few examples of how we deliver a relevant, world-class education by bringing theoretical examples to life.
