The Denver & Colorado Tourism Hall of Fame on Wednesday named four new members to the elite group of luminaries who have championed the travel industry in Denver and Colorado.

Tourism leaders inducted cable pioneer and philanthropist Bill Daniels posthumously at the annual soiree in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts’ Seawell Grand Ballroom.

Starting with an insurance agency in Casper, Daniels built a cable empire that shaped an industry and established Denver as a cable and technological hub. An owner of professional basketball teams, including the Utah Stars and the Los Angeles Lakers, Daniels was one of the first in the cable industry to focus on generating sports programming. His work with the University of Denver’s business school prompted DU officials in 1994 to rename it the Daniels College of Business.
