The University of Denver announced the new dean of the Daniels College of Business. Dr. Elrie LaBrent (Brent) Chrite has been selected following an extensive nine-month search led by the Korn/Ferry International search firm. He will begin on Aug. 4, 2014.

“Dr. Chrite is the right leader,” said University of Denver Provost, Gregg Kvistad. “With more than two decades of institutional leadership experience, he has a proven track record. He will be a strong and collaborative leader, working closely with talented faculty, staff and students in the Daniels School and throughout DU.”

Chrite comes from Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey, where he has served as both dean and professor of management and international business for the past four years. As the academic and administrative leader of the business school, comprised of more than 2,200 students and 85 full time faculty members, Dr. Chrite helped create programs producing graduates prepared for the 21st century job market. He led a four-pronged comprehensive transformation of the school, which resulted in a 40 percent increase in graduate enrollments, new dual degree global partnerships, a new executive MBA, the creation of a Center for Entrepreneurship, and a record level of private giving to the school.

“I am honored and excited to have been selected for this position at the University of Denver,” said Chrite. “The Daniels College of Business has a very strong foundation and is well positioned to mold tomorrow’s business leaders for Denver and the world. I look forward to working with the entire Daniels community to help this great institution to rise to even higher heights.”

Prior to serving as dean at Montclair, Dr. Chrite was associate dean and Gemelli Faculty Fellow at the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona. While in that position, he had overall leadership responsibility for the MBA program and created on campus dual degree programs with medicine and engineering. Dr. Chrite also developed successful executive education programs for the Tucson and Phoenix campuses. Between 2000 and 2003, Dr. Chrite served as assistant dean for global development at the University of Michigan’s Ross Business School. Early in his career, Dr. Chrite taught in the Middle East, Mexico, Russia, Uzbekistan, and throughout Africa.

Originally from Detroit, Dr. Chrite earned his PhD at the University of Michigan, his MS at the University of Missouri, and his bachelor’s degree at Michigan State University.
