Representing Daniels at the World Business Dialogue in Germany

March 22, 2013

Reem HassaniGraduating senior Reem Hassani was invited to attend the 16th World Business Dialogue March 11-14, 2013, at the University of Cologne in Cologne, Germany. Founded in 1987, the world’s largest student-run convention connects 300 business students from all over the world and invites high-profile business executives, thought leaders and others as speakers. Hassani is the first University of Denver student to attend the Dialogue.

Hassani, who graduated with a BS in marketing (Spanish minor) in March, completed an extensive application process in the fall of 2012 and was selected from several thousand applicants. She was among a few students from American universities to attend.

Hassani was also one of 30 students selected to participate in the Pre-Dialogue one day before the conference began. Student teams worked together to design a startup company and pitch their ideas to their fellow students. Hassani joined three students from the Stockholm School of Economics; Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic; and Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, Africa. The team’s startup idea was an online clothing rental company targeting people in transition—travelling to a new climate, rapid weight loss or transitioning from college to the professional realm, for example.

“It was very humbling to represent Daniels and DU—and the United States—at the World Business Dialogue,” says Hassani. “I considered it an exciting responsibility and something that really adds a lot of value to my education. Participating in opportunities like this gives me so much energy to achieve my goals after I graduate. I hope my attending this dialogue has planted the seeds for future involvement by DU in this conference.”

Hassani plans to begin her career in the film and entertainment industry. Throughout her Daniels career, she has participated in several other important worldwide programs for students, including the Inter-Collegiate Business Competition, the largest and longest-running undergraduate business case competition in Canada, and the Business Today International Conference, a conference for up-and-coming student business leaders and business executives.
