WorldRemit, a global leader in the smartphone and web-based money transfer industry has recently established its new North American headquarters in Denver, Colorado.
A London-based startup, WorldRemit was founded in 2010 in order to challenge the low-tech companies dominating the stagnant money transfer industry. By capitalizing on its digital technology and partnerships with telecom companies in emerging markets, WorldRemit is able to provide convenient and low-cost money transfer solutions to a global network of customers. Today, WorldRemit has sending locations in 50 countries and can make transfers to over 110 locations in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas.
2014 was a breakout year for WorldRemit when it was announced that the company had received a $40 million investment from Accel Partners—one of the world’s largest investment firms responsible for the early backing of companies like Facebook, Dropbox and Spotify. Buoyed by this financial support, WorldRemit’s staff would expand from 40 to over 150 people in a little more than one year. In February 2015, WorldRemit raised another $100 million in funding in one of the largest fundraising rounds to date for a British tech startup.
