Faculty Research Interests

Dr. Sam Cassidy, Clinical Professor
Dr. Cassidy's research interests include the psychology of ethics education, values-based leadership and government and commerce regulation. His most recent research will be presented at the 2009 Academy of Legal Studies in Business (ALSB) annual conference.

Dr. Corey Ciocchetti, Assistant Professor
Dr. Ciocchetti's research interests include law and technology, online privacy and the overworking of young professionals. He is the author of the book Real Rabbits: Chasing an Authentic Life and his research has been published in journals including the American Business Law Journal and the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Business Law

Dr. John Holcomb, Professor
Dr. Holcomb's research interests include corporate governance, executive compensation, business responses to citizen activism, affirmative action policies and business, campaign finance and corporate political activities, and regulatory initiatives and government bailouts. His research has been published in various book chapters and in such journals as Business and Professional Ethics Journal, The Denver Journal of International Law and Policy, The University of Pennsylvania Business Law Review, and Business in the Contemporary World.

Dr. Ruth Jebe, Senior Lecturer
Dr. Jebe's research interests include public international law, and legal and ethical issues raised by business involvement in international conflict zones.  Her research in pedagogy focuses on cooperative learning and knowledge commons, and the use of wikis as an instructional tool.

Dr. Stephen Martin, Clinical Professor
Dr. Martin's research interests include values-based leadership and ethics, corporate governance and compliance, government and legislative ethics, and corporate and government corruption. He is editor-in-chief of Ethisphere Magazine, which annually publishes the globally recognized World's Most Ethical Companies Ranking(TM) as well as the Government Contractor Ethics Program Ranking(TM) and the upcoming Global Anti-Corruption Quotient.

Dr. Don Mayer, Professor-in-Residence
Dr. Mayer's research interests include international law and ethics, specifically the ethics of international institutions using private military/security companies in failed or failing states; corporate free speech;  the ethics of corporations relative to local communities and to global commerce and the capitalist system; equitable doctrines as a means to check excessive compensation.

Dr. Kevin O'Brien, Chair, Department of Business Ethics and Legal Studies; Associate Professor
Dr. O'Brien's research interests include executive responsibility, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, professional ethics, corporate whistle-blowing, public policy and tax law, and electronic commerce. He attended the trials of Joe Nacchio, and Churchill v. University of Colorado and regularly posted about the legal issues on the Race to the Bottom blog. He has been published in ethical, legal and tax journals including a series of articles on student learning enhanced by multimedia and creation of a classroom learning community in MBA Roundtable.

Dr. James O'Toole, Daniels Distinguished Chair of Business Ethics
Dr. O'Toole's research and writings are in the areas of leadership, ethics, corporate culture, and philosophy. He is the author of eighteen acclaimed books including, most recently, Transparency: Creating Cultures of Candor and recent articles in such journals as Harvard Business Review and Strategy+Business.

Dr. Buie Seawell, Clinical Professor
Dr. Seawell's research interests include political and legal ethical issues, legislative policies, values-based leadership, government regulation, and government and campaign ethical issues. He has published numerous editorials, op-eds, and magazine articles on issues of public policy, politics, law and ethics and is currently on sabbatical in Oxford, England.
