Dorothy Joseph Quick-Search CoverIf you're a Daniels student, or aware of the elite circle of Colorado's more prolific CPAs, then you saw a very familiar face on October's cover of Quick-Search magazine. Ms. Dorothy Joseph, Associate Dean of College Operations at Daniels was featured in the October 2009 issue of the monthly magazine published by the Colorado State Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA).

Detailing Dorothy's hard work and engaging personality, the article highlighted myriad reasons why she is one of Daniels most esteemed administrators and one of the most respected CPA's in the state of Colorado. In the article, Dorothy talks about her drive to learn continuously and not be left behind. Her determination to stay in step with an ever-evolving workplace as well as her her interest in academia are just a few of the reasons the Daniels associate dean has taken 367 hours of CPE with the Colorado Society of CPAs in the past eight years.

In 1968, Dorothy graduated with a bachelor's degree in home economics and immediately jumped into a master's program to study psychology. After that, she entered George Mason University to pursue an accounting degree. She began auditing for KPMG in 1981 and earned her CPA certificate in 1983. At KPMG, she worked for Craig Woody. When he went to work for the University of Denver as the controller, she moved to DU to work for Woody until until 1985. She then worked for Columbia Savings, remaining there for almost 10 years, and then returning to DU.

In her current position at Daniels, she oversees several departments, including finance and budget. But her newest role is one that has her genuinely excited. She is part of the College's Inclusive Excellence Task Force. She explains that the Inclusive Excellence mission moves beyond the simplistic definition of diversity. It places responsibility on everyone at DU--students, faculty, administrators, and staff--to create a vibrant community embedded with diversity.
