    A Jew Falls Out--The Search for a Jewish Homeland in Surinam

    The Department of English & the Center for Judaic Studies. This lecture provides a summary of several centuries of Jewish history in Suriname, and how the long established Jewish community of that country encouraged the efforts of playwrights and politicos to find an alternate "promised land" in the rain forests of South America in the mid-twentieth century.
    Adam Rovner is an assistant professor of English and Jewish Literature at the University of Denver. He serves as the translations editor for ?Zeek: A Jewish Journal of Thought and Culture.? His articles and essays on literature, popular culture, and travel have appeared in a number of academic and general interest publications. Rovner is currently at work on a book about various proposals to find territorial solutions to Jewish homelessness.
