One of the oldest business schools in the country. And one of the most forward-thinking.
1908 – Initial class of 12
Daniels College of Business is part of the University of Denver, the oldest private university in the Rocky Mountain Region, founded in 1864. Established in 1908 as the School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance, Daniels is now the eighth oldest collegiate business school in the country.
1923 – Accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business
1946 – Name changed to College of Business Administration.
1989 – Bill Daniels challenge grant, new-to-the-world MBA curriculum.
The late Bill Daniels, cable television pioneer and Denver entrepreneur, presented the University of Denver with a challenge grant to update the graduate business curriculum. The goal was to create a program that would not only provide students high-quality professional skills, but would also integrate the development of characteristics and abilities necessary for successful leadership. The redesigned graduate program combined traditional disciplines such as finance, management and marketing with the development of crucial leadership skills to provide a real-world perspective for real-world success. Teaching “teams” made the approach successful along with the use of case studies and extensive training in technological business tools.
1994 – Name changed to the Daniels College of Business.
The faculty unanimously voted to recommend that the name be changed to the Daniels College of Business in recognition of Bill Daniels support of and continued interest in the College.
1999 – Daniels College of Business building opens.
From the ground up, the Daniels College of Business is designed to foster collaboration and teamwork with team breakout rooms instead of study carousels. The striking building has more than 3,000 data ports and wireless for Internet access. It also houses a state-of-the-art IT laboratory.
2007 – Over 2000 students – and a renewed commitment to innovation.
A commitment was made to enhance our already extensive focus on values-based leadership and corporate social responsibility with the creation of the Daniels Compass, an innovative “curriculum within a curriculum” that teaches ethical decision-making, leadership and collaborative skills.
