Mastering my Master of Accountancy

January 13, 2016 |

I always knew I wanted a business degree after growing up working in my family business in St. Paul, Minnesota. I chose to come to the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business to pursue my Master of Accountancy because I wanted to challenge myself. I learned quickly during my undergraduate career that I loved accounting without even knowing where it could take me and over time, my passion for numbers grew.

Over the course of my journey at Daniels, I have had the opportunity to intern for a variety of internships related to my career goals. This past summer I spent in Milan, Italy interning for Ernst & Young (EY), one of the top four accounting firms, in the Global Student Experience (GSE) program. I was able to dive deep into the company and was given many important responsibilities in which I could leverage the lessons I learned in the classroom. I validated financial statements, worked closely with clients to assess and understand risk factors, ensured IT systems were functioning, and much more. It was great to build upon my knowledgebase and bring those experiences back into the classroom as I wrap up my last few months here at Daniels.

Upon graduation, I have been offered a place at EY to start my career. As I prepare for the next journey in my life, I know I will always remember my time here at Daniels and the experiences I’ll always carry with me, the faculty who have always gone above and beyond the call of duty to support my goals, and the people who I’ve made lifelong friends with.

Your story is inspiring. I am an accounting major at DU and I would love to eventually have an opportunity to work at EY.
