Today, Daniels hosted the Graduate Resource Fair and Welcome Back Barbeque. I stayed for the entire event and could not have had a more enjoyable experience! There were many, many organizations in attendance, including Daniels Graduate Women in Business, the Daniels Ambassador Program, Team Daniels, Net Impact, the University of Denver Marketing Association, the Daniels Consulting Firm, Entrepreneurs in Action, Race and Case, the Graduate Student Associate Council, the Graduate Business Student Association, the International Business Association, Campus Safety, Parking Services, the Ritchie Center, the Investment Banking and Capital Markets Club, and the Real Estate Club.
I wasn’t sure where to begin, so I started with the food, which was delicious. I indulged in a pulled pork sandwich, fresh watermelon, sweet potato fries, and cookies while plotting out where to go first. I decided to start with Team Daniels, an organization which promotes health and fitness through intramural sports, races, and other activities. I signed up for the intramural flag football and soccer teams and got a free water bottle. Then, I moved on to the Ritchie Center’s table, where I picked up a group fitness schedule, and the Health Center’s table, where I spoke to the nurses about the free flu shots offered by DU.
After stopping by the Daniels Graduate Women in Business (DGWiB) table to visit my Co-President, I introduced myself to the Investment Banking and Capital Markets Club. I learned that they will be hosting training sessions throughout the year; due to generous sponsorships, the sessions will be offered at a fraction of their usual cost.
I was then summoned by the gregarious representative for the Graduate Business Student Association (GBSA), who challenged me to play a game to win a prize. I got incredibly lucky and managed to hit a ball across the grass into a basket, so I won a Daniels t-shirt. I also signed up to learn more about a golf tournament that the GBSA will be hosting in a few months in conjunction with the Daniels alumni group (I was pleased to learn that golf lessons will be offered before the tournament).
Net Impact was located next to GBSA, and I learned that its members will be taking a trip toPortlandfor a convention this quarter. They are offering scholarships to allow as many students as possible to attend.
The Graduate Resource Fair was an amazing opportunity to learn about all of the organizations at Daniels. I had a wonderful time seeing many familiar faces, meeting dozens of new people, and gorging on chocolate chip cookies. I cannot wait to participate in the organizations I learned about (as soon as I manage to unbury myself from all of my new swag)!
