Fracking for natural gas might lower the value of property near the drilling site, according to a new study conducted by a three professors.

Robert Simons of Cleveland State University, and Ron Throupe and Xue Mao of the University of Denver estimated that homes near a fracking site might lose 5 to 15 percent of their value.

The findings are based on surveys of 550 Texas, Florida and Alabama homeowners.
