Biography at a Glance

Mary Medley is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Colorado Society of CPAs, Denver, Colorado. She represents the organization of 8,300 members locally and nationally in a wide range of roles. She serves on the COCPA’s Board of Directors and provides staff support to a variety of volunteer committees. She is a registered lobbyist for the COCPA and coordinates its legislative activities. Medley oversees COCPA operations and leads a staff of 20 professionals in delivering member and community services. With the association since 1974, Medley has worked in continuing education, legislative affairs, public relations, community and member services, career education, scholarship programs, fundraising, and chapter development during her tenure.

Medley is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics including professional issues, business writing, effective presentation skills, and business etiquette, before CPAs, students, and national audiences.

Active with the American Institute of CPAs, Medley recently was appointed to the Pre-certification Education Executive Committee, PcEEC. She served a four-year stint on the AICPA’s Strategic Planning Committee; a term on the AICPA’s Committee Operations Committee; and as a trustee for the AICPA Foundation which provides funding for the Accounting Doctoral Scholars program, minority initiatives, and the national financial literacy program. She was involved with the national Pathways Commission effort to recommend fundamental change in education of the accountants of the future. She served as president of the CPA Society Executives Association Board in 2004. Medley serves on the accounting department advisory boards for the University of Denver and the University of Northern Colorado. She also is the 2010-2013 president of the Colorado JumpStart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy.

A native Texan, Medley is a member of the American and Colorado societies of association executives. She received a B.A. in English from Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas. She was appointed to Southwestern’s Board of Trustees in July, 2012.  She is the proud parent of son Kellen David Smith and #1 fan of her low handicap, golfer husband, Robert J. Cloud.
