Daniels Week Wine Fundraiser

April 26, 2012 |

Yesterday, Daniels Graduate Women in Business and the Real Estate and Construction Management Club hosted a fabulous wine fundraiser in conjunction with Daniels Week. Three local wineries were in attendance, and I had a great time sampling different varieties of vino and pretending like I knew what I was talking about (“This one is fruity on the nose!”).

There were 50 or 60 attendees, and I spent the majority of the evening talking to an inspiring father/daughter duo.  The father had earned his BSBA in Marketing from the University of Denver, and his daughter worked in the field of communication (my undergrad major).  We had a blast sipping wine, eating appetizers (bruschetta or spinach artichoke dip, anyone?) and snarfing down cupcakes, which were provided by a Daniels student named Emalee.  Emalee knows the secret to creating icing that is just sweet enough without being overwhelming, and we felt that we ought to sample several cupcakes just to make sure that they were all as perfect as the first one we tried (they were).

The main event of the night was an auction to raise money for two nonprofit organizations.  The event began as a silent auction and then switched over to a live auction.  The Real Estate and Construction Management Club donated beautiful artwork and one of the wineries donated a case of wine.  The bidding was a blast (our amateur actioneer was hilarious) and hundreds of dollars were donated to charity.  One of the bidders was a Daniels alum who worked in the accounting industry.  He had endowed a scholarship at Daniels and was excited to attend the scholarship breakfast a few days later.

Wine, art, cupcakes, and friends — what could be better?  I am ever more grateful for my Daniels family.  Thanks to all who made the event such a great success!
