Undergraduate Daniels Distinction Program

A Selective Honors Program with Business in Mind

The Daniels College of Business in conjunction with the University of Denver's Honors Program is proud to announce the newly created Daniels Distinction Program, an exclusive academic honors program targeted toward highly motivated and intellectually curious students looking to challenge themselves in an advanced learning environment.

The program features specially designed courses open only to program participants and taught by leading professors at Daniels. These courses will be structured around rigorous workloads, in-depth classroom discussions, and intensive writing and research projects. They will also reinforce and apply Daniels' core values of sustainability, ethics, corporate responsibility and global business to real-world situations.

The program is affiliated with the DU Honors Program and seeks to combine a strong liberal arts background with a sophisticated business education to develop high-caliber business professionals. All candidates must meet the minimum standards set forth by the DU Honors Program and complete the required DU Honors courses to qualify for membership in the Daniels Distinction Program. Since honors courses are university requirements, students take most of them early in their four years of study.

The program will be phased into the university's curriculum starting in 2008 and is scheduled to be fully integrated by 2011.

Why join the Daniels Distinction Program?

Specially designed courses limited to program participants. The program features, in addition to the Daniels business core curriculum, four specially designed courses structured for higher-levels of learning with detailed analysis and advanced topics in business education. They will be held in small, intimate classrooms capped at 15 students. These required courses include ACTG 1800, MKTG 2800, MGMT 2850 and MGMT 3800.

Academically intensive and intellectually driven environment. Designed for the best and brightest students, the Daniels Distinction program creates a challenging academic setting that places students among similar peers seeking innovative and rigorous educational opportunities.

Access to top faculty and business leaders. A key part of the program is allowing participants to connect with esteemed faculty members, business executives and community leaders through unique small group and one-on-one mentoring opportunities.

Exclusive co-curricular activities. Additional benefits of the program include activities and events such as social gatherings, access to special lectures and guest speakers, major internships, opportunities to participate in international business trips and academic competitions focused on business case studies.

An extensive final project that tackles real-world business challenges. The program culminates with a course offering a capstone experience where students are given a real-world business problem and then must develop a major written project and oral presentation offering a strategic solution. Students will present their projects to Daniels faculty and outside sponsors involved with the program.

Affiliation with DU Honors Program benefits. Program participants will be part of the elite DU Honors and be able to take advantage of all of the programs, classes and benefits this program provides. In addition, students are encouraged to apply for faculty-student research grants through DU?s Partners in Scholarship (PinS) program and participate in the Honors House, a residential opportunity for first-year students to live among other academically focused peers.

In order for students to be in the Daniels Distinction Program, they must participate in and be a member of good standing in the DU Honors Program. To apply for the DU Honors and Daniels Distinction Program, students should contact the DU Honors Program.
