Jessie McLean wanted to integrate her passion for travel with her future career. Her father was involved in international business, which inspired her at a young age. Born in Massachusetts, Jessie’s adopted state is Colorado. To broaden her horizons, she decided to go out of state for her undergraduate degree. She sought out small liberal arts colleges offering a quality education and opportunities to study abroad
During her undergraduate years in Maryland, McLean traveled to Canada, New York, France, and Ghana. After college, she lived and worked in China for a year before she moved back to Colorado to take jobs specializing in sales and marketing. After several years of work experience, she was ready for the next step in her career. She was determined to incorporate an international flavor.
Following her interest in business, she began looking at selected MBA programs. Her itch for an international career focus took her in several directions until she learned about the International MBA program at Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. Before making her final decision to attend Daniels, she attended information sessions, preview weekends, and school events at several other colleges and cast her interview and research net widely.
The faculty, staff, students and the quality of academic programs convinced Jessie that Daniels was the place for her. In addition, Daniels has many unique attributes including a focus in ethical leadership and experiential learning with a global scope that supplements the fundamental coursework in finance, marketing and business strategy. Graduate students at Daniels also begin and end their educational journey with the same group of people in the cohort format. Daniels’ powerful network, in addition to the opportunity to build relationships that last beyond the classroom were especially attractive aspects for Jessie.
Jessie’s Daniels experience has been enriched by the various opportunities she has take advantage of. These include attending Leading at the Edge Weekend, Voices of Experience speaker series, panels such as Women in Business, Sustainability, Marketing/PR, and signing up to be part of the Executive Mentorship Program. She went to DebateFest during the first Presidential Debate and also acts as a Graduate Assistant in Enrollment Marketing and serves as a Student Ambassador enabling her to share her experience with prospective students. She strongly states that all these experiences have given her a new perspective on the importance of the work/lifestyle partnership and the under recognized potential of teams to achieve ambitious goals. She is delighted to have decided on an IMBA from Daniels.
