Anton Collins Mitchell

People first. That’s the mantra of Denver-based CPA and consulting firm Anton Collins Mitchell.

That simple philosophy also guides Anton Collins Mitchell’s chairman and CEO, Greg Anton, who strives to weave what he calls an “enrichment cycle” into the fiber of the firm. “The more you give in life, the more you get back in return,” he says. “The Daniels College of Business has that same motivation—both the professors and the leadership. I feel like the people at this institution want to help the community and they partner with people and organizations that feel the same.”

Among the many causes that Anton Collins Mitchell (ACM) supports, the firm is a dedicated partner of Daniels—and a silver-level member of the Daniels Corporate Partners program. The firm awards an annual scholarship to a School of Accountancy student and invites DU students to apply for its Summer Leadership Program each year, where firm leaders share career information about public accounting.

Numerous ACM employees are involved with the College as well, including senior audit associate Brett Cunningham (BSBA, BSAcc 2011), who is a mentor to School of Accountancy students, and Kristin Holthus (Schaefer) (MAcc 2004), who speaks at Beta Alpha Psi meetings. Anton presents frequently at Beta Alpha Psi meetings and serves as a speaker and panelist at other Career Services and College events. He also participated as a judge at the 12th annual Race & Case competition in February 2015.

Perhaps the firm’s greatest contribution to the Daniels community is its active role in recruiting Daniels and DU students and graduates. ACM hires at least one intern and one employee each year from Daniels and the DU Graduate Tax Program. Currently, the firm has 15 employees who are DU/Daniels alumni.

“Anton Collins Mitchell has a very active presence here at the School of Accountancy, and Greg personally gives a presentation to accounting students about the business of running a CPA firm, which is always one of the best presentations of the year,” says Dr. Sharon Lassar, director of the School. “Greg’s commitment to the CPA profession is commendable and unique. He is a leader in the local and national community, and we’re proud to have him and ACM as partners of our College.”

Anton is the past chair of the Colorado Society of CPAs and past chairman of the American Institute of CPAs. In 2012, he led the launch of a nonpartisan education campaign and U.S. government fiscal analysis, titled “What’s at Stake? A CPA’s Insights into the Federal Government’s Finances.” He has been deeply involved with the Colorado Society of CPAs Educational Foundation, and spearheaded its fundraising campaign for accounting students. “ACM is a very charitable firm, and Greg as its chairman is passionate about advocating for the profession and accounting students in Colorado,” Dr. Lassar adds.

“Paying it forward and giving back are both things that are incredibly important to our firm,” says Anton. “The Daniels College of Business is aligned the same way with its commitment to ethics and excellence. We want to be involved with institutions that are committed to the business community and that’s a fundamental reason we support Daniels.”
