Dr. Christine Riordan, Ph.D.
Dr. Christine Riordan, a nationally recognized expert in leadership development and diversity, is the 15th dean of the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. She joined Daniels during its centennial year. One of her top priorities is to build upon the College's long tradition of excellence and innovation.
Background
Prior to becoming the dean at Daniels, Dr. Riordan was the associate dean for external relations at the Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth from 2005-2008. There, she directed all public, corporate and alumni relations and numerous successful marketing initiatives. Dr. Riordan also oversaw the Tandy Center for Executive Leadership and was the Luther Henderson University Chair in Leadership.
From 1995-2005, Dr. Riordan was a professor at the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens and director of the school's Institute for Leadership Advancement. During this time, she also founded the Waffle House Executive Leadership Program, worked on Governor Sonny Perdue's Leadership Development Task Force for the Commission for New Georgia, and was invited to help design the Executive Leadership Program for state agency department heads. For her work, she was recognized by Georgia Trend as a "Top 40 under 40: Best and Brightest Young Georgians." Other honors include: 2005 Service Award, 1999 Teacher of the Year Award, a Sarah Moss Fellowship, three Sanford Research Fellowships, a Sanford Faculty-Practitioner Grant, and a Terry-Selig Research Fellowship.
In addition to her academic contributions, Dr. Riordan has served as executive consultant in leadership for the Southern Zone of State Farm Insurance Companies for more than eight years. She has designed executive coaching and leadership development programs for businesses and organizations such as Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, AT&T, Regions Bank, Fannie Mae, IBM, the state of Georgia and the Life Office Management Association, Inc. She is also the past president of the Southern Management Association, a nonprofit professional association.
Riordan holds an MBA and a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from Georgia State University, and a bachelor's degree in textile engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). She is married to Dr. Robert Gatewood and they have two children, Mikaela and Mason.
Research and Publications
Dr. Riordan's research focuses on labor-force diversity issues, human resources, workplace issues, leadership development, leadership effectiveness and career success.
She has published articles in the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of Managerial Issues, Journal of Business Ethics and many others. She has served on editorial review boards for the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management and Academy of Management Journal. Because of her expertise in these areas, Dr. Riordan has been interviewed and quoted in magazines and newspapers such as USA Today, The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Psychology Today, Working Mother, Chicago Tribune, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Investors Daily and more. She has appeared on CNN and conducted interviews for several public radio stations.
Fundraising
Dr. Riordan has extensive fundraising experience, having helped generate more than $10 million from external sources to support programs at both UGA and TCU. At UGA she raised more than $7 million to support Institute for Leadership Advancement programs and implemented a lucrative corporate partner program. At TCU, she was part of a team that raised $3 million in support of the new Student Leadership Programs office in the Neeley School of Business.
