The celebration begins:  Kick-off event honors
Daniels 100 years of business education

As the Daniels College of Business celebrates its 100th birthday, the yearlong series of events honoring this occasion kicked-off with a day of celebration on Friday, April 24th. The day’s events traced the history of Daniels from its beginning in 1908 as one of the first business colleges founded in the United States to its recent ranking among the top business schools in the world (BusinessWeek, The Wall Street Journal).

To start the day of celebration, more than 80 attendees — students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the University—joined Dean Bruce Hutton, Chancellor Emeritus Daniel Ritchie and other guest speakers for Breakfast at the Beginning: celebrating the years 1908-1948. Held at the Tramway Education Building in the Denver Performing Arts Complex, this breakfast honored Daniels’ early years at the nearby site of the original school of Commerce, Accounts and Finance (circa 1908).

Tracing the relocation of the school in 1949 to “City Hall Annex One,” near Civic Center Park, nearly 90 attendees headed to the current Annex One building for Lunch at Midday, Midway: celebrating the years 1949-1967.  Host Dean Bruce Hutton and special guests Art and Polly Mason spoke about highlights of this era while guiding attendees through the classrooms of the 50s and 60s.

Approximately 70 attendees joined the celebration for Afternoon on Campus: celebrating the years 1968-1999. Starting from Sturm Hall, the business school’s sixth home, attendees mingled with hosts Dean Emeritus Peter Firman, Dean Bruce Hutton and distinguished alumni, strolled on the green and enjoyed late-day refreshments.

The final event of the day, An Evening at Daniels, celebrating the years 2000-2008, brought together more than 100 attendees to the Graduation Green at the current Daniels College of Business. Alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the University connected with students, enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, explored the current building and learned how a Daniels’ education will be shaping the leaders of tomorrow.

According to Interim Dean Bruce Hutton, “Our goal with the 100th is to energize the Daniels and Denver community around a very special place that has produced extraordinary talent, and to create momentum for our next 100 years."
